About this site

An independent guide to the through sailing between Hirtshals and Bergen, published in four separate editions.

Why this site exists

Most travellers planning this crossing need more than the sailing time. They need to know which berth to book for a night and a morning, whether Bergen or an earlier call fits their destination, what the total comes to for their party and vehicle, and how it compares with a short crossing plus a driving day. This site sets out to answer those questions in one place, with sources.

Four editions, not four translations

The crossing is the same for everyone, but the journey to the port is not. A traveller driving from Hamburg, one coming from the Netherlands, one living in Denmark and one flying into Aalborg are planning different trips around the same 17 hrs 30 min at sea.

The site is therefore published as four separate editions, in English, German, Dutch and Danish. The facts about the ferries and the terminals are the same in each. The routes, distances and driving times are written for each readership.

How the information is checked

  • Operator facts come from the operator. Crossing times, ship specifications, check-in deadlines, terminal addresses and published fares are taken from Fjord Line’s own pages, and cited at the bottom of the page where they appear.
  • Where sources disagree, we say so. Fjord Line publishes this route as a daily year-round service; booking platforms list fewer departures in late winter. We name both rather than picking the tidier one.
  • Departure times change several times a year. Rather than publish a fixed table that goes out of date, we describe the shape of the sailing day and link to a live timetable for specific dates.
  • Every substantial page carries the date it was last checked.

Independence

The site is funded by commission on bookings made through partner links, which never affects the price you pay. That funding does not decide what the pages say: the route comparison names the crossings that suit a trip better than this one, including for Oslo, where this crossing is the wrong choice. Full details are on the disclaimer page.

Who publishes it
