Arriving in Bergen at Jekteviksterminalen
The terminal, the 15 minute walk into the centre, parking, and the first hour after the ramp goes down.
Checked

The ferry from Hirtshals docks at Jekteviksterminalen, Nøstegaten 30, 5006 Bergen, on the southern edge of the centre. That is the fact worth carrying into the booking: on this route you walk off the ramp and into the city, which no other crossing from Denmark lets you do.
Arrival is at 13:00, which leaves most of an afternoon.
The terminal
Jekteviksterminalen is Fjord Line’s own terminal on Nøstegaten, below the Nordnes peninsula and west of the Vågen harbour basin. It is separate from the cruise quays at Skolten and Dokken, so follow the Fjord Line signs rather than the word “ferry” alone.

Getting off and into the city
Stay in the cabin until your deck is called
Unloading goes deck by deck, so there is nothing to gain by going down to the car early.
Twenty to thirty minutes from berthing to the gate
On a full summer sailing. On a quiet crossing, considerably less.
On foot, turn right along the water
Nøstegaten runs into Strandgaten and then the harbour. Bryggen is about 15 min, roughly 1 km.
By car, the toll ring starts at once
Cameras read your number plate and the bill arrives by post. See the section below.
Into Bergen without a car
This is the crossing where arriving on foot works best. From the ramp:
| Bryggen and the fish market | approx. 1 km, 15 min on foot along the waterfront |
| Fløibanen funicular | approx. 1.5 km, 20 min on foot from the terminal |
| Bergen railway station | approx. 1.5 km, 20 min on foot, or a short bus ride |
| City buses | Stop on Nøstegaten; tickets in the Skyss app are cheaper than on board |
| Bybanen light rail | Nearest stops are around Byparken, about 20 min on foot |
The Bergen Line to Oslo leaves from the railway station, and the 13:00 arrival makes an afternoon departure realistic if you are continuing east without a car.
Norwegian road tolls
Bergen charges an automatic toll ring read from your number plate, with no barriers to stop at. You pass the first point within minutes of leaving the terminal.
| Option | How it works | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Do nothing | A bill is posted to the registered keeper | An extra plate lookup fee per passage, at the standard rate |
| Register with Epass24 | Add plate and card in advance, free | No lookup fee, and the correct rate for your emissions class |
| AutoPASS chip for visitors | Order in advance, fitted to the windscreen | Around 20 percent off per passage for ordinary cars, on top of the Epass24 benefit |
Two rules limit what a day adds up to. Within 60 minutes you pay once per toll ring however many points you pass, and a vehicle pays no more than a set monthly cap per ring in a calendar month.
Rates, discount levels and conditions are set by the Norwegian state and change. Check the current position before you travel rather than trusting a figure printed here.
Somewhere to stay near the terminal
A 13:00 arrival gives you the afternoon, and a 14:00 departure on the return means being in the city that morning. Both are easier with a bed in the centre, which here is a short walk rather than a drive.

The first afternoon
Arriving at 13:00 is the best-timed arrival of any Denmark to Norway crossing: the shops are open, the funicular is running, and you have not spent the morning driving.
- Bryggen, the Hanseatic wharf on the UNESCO World Heritage list, 15 min on foot
- The fish market, at the head of the Vågen basin next to Bryggen
- Fløibanen, the funicular up Fløyen for the view over the seven mountains
- KODE, the art museums around Lille Lungegårdsvann
Where to read on
- The drive on. Onward from Bergen covers the fjords, the tolls and the fuel.
- The other end. Hirtshals port covers check-in and the afternoon before.
Book the return from Bergen
